'Yuri!!! On Ice' Season 2 Possible In 2017? Kubo Hints At Sequel During Interview; Plot Predictions After Grand Prix Final

"Yuri!!! on Ice" is expected to end with 12 episodes following the Grand Prix Final. In the meantime, speculations about the hit anime's sequel are circulating. This is after "Yuri!!! on Ice" original writer Mitsurō Kubo reportedly said she wanted to do a season 2 in her recent interview.

With its popularity, "Yuri!!! on Ice" season 2 is highly possible. Sports anime especially have high chances of getting renewed, just like "Haikyuu!!" and "Kuroko no Basket." However, because "Yuri!!! on Ice" is an original anime (not based on manga or light novel), we have no idea how things are going to play.

In one particular blog post, Kubo was asked about her plans during the skating season this year. She answered she would be pouring all her energy to "Yuri!!! on Ice" but she plans on watching and cheering for matches online and on television. She then mentioned about her plans for 2017.

"I have a lot of plans in the works with the director next year... including the wish to create a sequel. So I'm doing my best and working hard for that reason." Kubo added. It seems like there will be a torturous wait for season 2 but this brings hope to avid fans.

There are speculations that Yuri won't be able to win gold in the Grand Prix Final. That is possible since the line-up of athletes competing for the final are all very skilled. Spoilers for "Yuri!!! on Ice" episode 12 also suggest Yuri will try a difficult stunt in the free skate to have a base score higher than JJ. He will try a quad flip which he has not landed properly yet. One mistake and he can bid goodbye to the gold medal.

The report further suggests that in "Yuri!!! on Ice" season 2, Yuri and Viktor will prepare for another competition to redeem themselves from the Grand Prix. Yuri himself said before that this Grand Prix will be his last chance but who knows, he might change his mind. Winning no gold equals no wedding for them.

Personally, I want Yuri to win the gold. If he really wins, the story's focus will still be on their competitions after the Grand Prix Final. However, the new challenge for Yuri in "Yuri!!! on Ice" season 2 will be how to keep up with people's expectations from him as a gold medalist. He will surely be subjected to a lot of pressure, and he doesn't want to tarnish Viktor's name. On top of that, the series might also add some more talented competitors.

There's also the issue of Viktor's career. After his mission with Yuri is over, people might urge him to go back to the rink. We all know that Yuri wants Viktor to be his lifetime coach after that heart pumping confession in episode 9 but there are a lot of expectations from Viktor as a figure skating genius and five-time Grand Prix Final gold medalist.

"Yuri!!! on Ice" episode 12 "Gotta Supercharge it! Grand Prix Final Free Skate" is expected to air on Wednesday, Dec. 21. There is no official announcement about "Yuri!!! on Ice" season 2 yet.
