How 'Xbox Scorpio' Might Be 4.5 Times More Powerful Than 'Xbox One'

While we already know a handful amount about Xbox's Project Scorpio, the upcoming console is still somewhat of a mystery, and some of the given information has already raised more questions than answers.

Questions that needs answers

Will every Xbox One games work on Scorpio? What will be the Scorpio's official price? Is Project Scorpio simply an Xbox One version that offers boosted internals, or something more? Will the Scorpio be better overall than the Xbox One?

To answer some of these questions here's everything we know, so far, about Microsoft's upcoming flagship console

Project Scorpio and what it can do

Unveiled during last year's E3 event, Project Scorpio is the next Xbox console, and unlike other former Xbox consoles, this one will be a generational leap like no other. The Xbox Scorpio is scheduled for a Holiday 2017 launch.

More powerful than the Xbox One

Microsoft has already claimed that the Scorpio will be rocking a whopping 6 teraflops of computational power and 320 GB/s of memory bandwidth. Microsoft is also aiming for uncompromising 4K HD gaming resolution with the Scorpio.

The current Xbox One has a peak throughput of only 1.3 teraflops, with a maximum of 200 GB/s of memory bandwidth, making the Scorpio over 4.5 times more powerful than the Xbox One.

VR-ready Functionality

The Xbox Scorpio will also power high-fidelity Virtual Reality experiences. Microsoft is also reportedly making a VR play with Scorpio, noting that the next Xbox will also be supporting VR gaming. But as of now, it still remains to be seen whether Microsoft will be providing its own VR headset, or simply rely on third-party headsets.

Backward Compatibility for the Scorpio

Unlike previous consoles, the Scorpio will be fully backward and forwards compatible with the Xbox One. This would include accessories, all the games, as well as Xbox 360 backward compatibility. Microsoft has also confirmed at E3 2016 that Xbox Scorpio will have no exclusive games. Instead, games will be scaling dynamically between Xbox One and Project Scorpio.
