NES Classic Edition News: Available Best Buy Stocks And A Secret Message

The NES Classic Edition remains missing-in-action but that hasn't stopped people from looking for one and for news about the console and Nintendo in general from spilling over the screen. Here are the latest:

Best Buy Had Them But...

Best Buy had stocks of the hard-to-find NES Classic Edition... for about 20 minutes.

BGR reports that around 10:30 in the morning of Jan. 12, major retailer Best Buy listed the mini NES for sale on its website. But people who were fortunate enough to learn of the console's availability quickly scooped them up.

Best Buy happens to have an official eBay store where it sold some of the mini NES stocks. Now, those desperate to have the miniature version of the classic console will have one more place to look in.

As it stands, the best way to get the NES Classic Edition is to watch the websites of retailers and to click on notifications. Product availability trackers such as NowInStock and BrickSeek will also prove useful as a number of people successfully bought their own consoles with the help of the said websites.

Secret Message

Nintendo correctly predicted that the NES Classic would be hacked. A number of hackers have already successfully added games to the 30-game library with at least one increasing the number to almost 90 games.

Nintendo had a trick up their sleeves, however. Hackers discovered a hidden message inside the console addressed to them.

"This is the hanafuda captain speaking. Launching emulation in 3... 2... 1. Many efforts, tears and countless hours have been put into this jewel. So please keep this place tidied up and don't break everything! Cheers, the hanafuda captan!"

Business Insider notes that hanafuda is actually a Japanese playing card used for different card games. Before Nintendo became a video game company, it used to make cards such as the hanafuda card.
