The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Trailer Released

A trailer has been released for the upcoming Hunger Games sequel, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

The second film in the Hunger Games franchise begins with Katniss Everdeen coming home after her victory at the 74th Annual Hunger Games with Peeta Mellark. A "victory tour" of the districts is in order and during her trip, Everdeen senses a rebellion brewing. The Capitol, however, still very much has the upper hand and President Snow is preparing the 75th Annual Hunger Games, an event which promises an entirely new set of dangers.

The film is a slight departure for the franchise, which began in 2012 with the original box office success The Hunger Games. A new director is taking the helm this go-round, with Francis Lawrence (Water for Elephants, I Am Legend) replacing Gary Ross (Seabiscuit, Pleasantville). The cast will largely remain the same, with the exception of one welcome addition: Philip Seymour Hoffman as Plutarch Heavensbee. Hoffman's character replaces Seneca Crane (Wes Bentley). Other new additions include Jena Malone, Amanda Plummer, Jeffrey Wright, Sam Claflin, Lynn Cohen and Meta Golding. Returning cast includes Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Lenny Kravitz, Elizabeth Banks, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Toby Jones, Willow Shields, Donald Sutherland and Stanley Tucci.

The trailer for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire premiered on Sunday April 14 at the MTV Movie Awards. The film is produced by Jon Kilik and Nina Jacobson's Color Force and is based on the second book in the trilogy by Suzanne Collins, which has sold more than 50 million copies in the U.S.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire opens November 22, 2013. Check out the trailer below.
