Further Study Made On Atrial Fibrillation Heartbeat

A new study might shed light on a type of irregular heartbeat. The new study could help people with this type of irregular heartbeat. Further study is being made on atrial fibrillation heartbeat.

A team of researchers from the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center are studying atrial fibrillation heartbeat and how it can treatment of it be improved. The method by which the team is doing it is only done there, as it involves getting a donated heart and then studying how it works. Time is critical in the study as the donated heart could only be sustained for so long.

The method has been made by Vadim Fedorov. He is an associate professor in the Department of Physiology and Cell Biology. Preparing the donated heart is crucial, as there is only 12 hours for preparation to be done for it. Through the method made the team has been able to observe much on how the heart behaves especially during irregular heartbeat.

Dr. John Hummel, electrophysiologist at Ohio State Wexner Medical Center, commented that through the method there are areas that have been seen which exist in people with irregular heartbeat. The method will also help doctors in giving therapy to patients that have atrial fibrillation.

The usual method to see how atrial fibrillation is on a patient is through CAT Scan or MRI, according to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center's site. Even with the best current therapy though, success is seen at best to be only 70 percent of the time. Patients have to return in order to get further ablation for the heart.

The new study has also shown that there is hope for people with atrial fibrillation, even for those who have a persistent one, as Science Daily reports. Atrial fibrillation is the most common type of irregular heartbeat. 6 million Americans are affected by it. The research could have much impact in the way this type of irregular heartbeat is treated in the future.

Irregular heartbeat can lead to complications such as stroke and heart failure. It is crucial that proper treatment be given to those who might have it. Further study is being made on atrial fibrillation heartbeat. A study shows that anorexic people have autistic traits also.
