A trailer for Thor 2 (Thor: The Dark World) has been released, along with news that we will see the trailer for the film next week.

The poster features Thor wielding his hammer, from which lightning emanates and shoots past him. The poster for Thor: The Dark World doesn't reveal much about the film but is certainly stylish and effective.

A trailer for Thor: The Dark World will accompany the debut of Iron Man 3, which premieres in the U.S. in May. It will also appear on iTunes on Tuesday April 23. A description of the trailer was recently leaked online.

Thor: The Dark World takes place after the first Thor and The Avengers. Thor winds up facing a powerful alien race led by Malekith. The confrontation forces Thor to embark on his most dangerous adventure yet, resulting in a reunion with Jane Foster and decision to make a great sacrifice.

Thor 2 features the return of Natalie Portman (Jane Foster), Tom Hiddleston (Loki) and Anthony Hopkins (Odin). New additions include Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Lost) playing Algrim the Strong/Kurse and Christopher Eccleston (Doctor Who) as the Dark Elf Malekith. Directing duties have been switched from Kenneth Branagh to Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones).

Thor: The Dark World opens on November 8, 2013. The film accompanies a string of other superhero movies that include Iron Man 3 (May 3), Captain America: The Winter Soldier (April 4, 2014), Guardians of the Galaxy (August 1, 2014), The Avengers 2 (May 1, 2015) and Ant-Man (November 6, 2015).
