Castlevania Gets A Netflix Series From 'Adventure Time' Studio

Rumors of a Castlevania series have surfaced online last year, but now, Netflix has confirmed that a series is in the works and fans can expect it to air sometime this year.

According to Game Rant, Netflix has gone into detail as to what to expect in the incoming series. The official synopsis goes, "Inspired by the classic video game series, Castlevania is a dark medieval fantasy following the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepe himself."

As for the animation work, it has been confirmed that the series will be executive produced by Warren Ellis, Adi Shankar, Kevin Kolde and Fred Seibert. The series will be written by Ellis and animated by "Adventure Time" studio Frederator.

The series is also said to be coming in four parts, with the incoming release being titled "Castlevania Season 1, Part 1." No exact timeline has been revealed for each release, but an episode of "Castlevania" is said to run for 30 minutes.

Adi Shankar also reveals that "Castlevania" is "R-rated as f***" and the show will be done in the same vein as HBO's "Game of Thrones." That's pretty different coming from the studio that's famous for a series about a boy and a magical talking dog. Then again, "Adventure Time" is known to get oddly dark as more backstory is revealed about the characters.

Frederator was said to have had the rights to make a Castlevania series for quite some time, and rumors about the series had already been popping up last year. "Castlevania" is described to be satirical and dark, and it's said to bring something new to the table when it comes to the vampire sub-genre. Knowing the kind of work that Frederator has put in "Adventure Time," fans are wondering just what to expect from Netflix's "Castlevania." which is set to come out this year.
