This year’s Academy Awards, which is popularly known as the Oscars, has given lots of things to remember and talk about. Aside from the infamous Best Picture mix-up, it has also given awards to productions that nobody expected to have an Oscar like “Suicide Squad”. In light of its recent win, there might just be a possibility that a sequel is in the works.
The Warner Bros. movie, “Suicide Squad”, which starred a number of DC Universe’s most notorious villains, have just grabbed an Oscar this year. The movie may have won just one award but it was still an Oscar. The said movie won the Best Makeup and Hairstyling award, outdoing “A Man Called Ove” and “Star Trek Beyond”. Alessandro Bertolazzi, Giorgio Gregorini, and Christopher Nelson received the award at the 89th Academy Awards.
During their speech, Bertolazzi admitted that they felt the added incredible sense of pressure for bringing the characters of “Suicide Squad” to life-based on how they were depicted in the comics. He added that to make the best makeup and hairstyling, they had to forget the pressure and how these characters were iconic in the first place. Nelson also said that they did not make something that everybody had to be happy with but instead put that characters into ones that people can relate to. In fact, they even had to go through all kinds of inspiration like visiting hardware stores and going through trash to think more about the characters.
Though “Suicide Squad” did not get nominated for other major awards like Best Picture, fans are still welcome to the idea of a sequel and it might just be in the works. There are rumors that Mel Gibson was offered to direct the “Suicide Squad” sequel. The “Lethal Weapon” star was recently nominated for the Oscars for Best Director for the movie, “Hacksaw Ridge”.
He was asked about this rumor and he addressed it but did not confirm whether or not the sequel has been greenlighted. He did say that he had met some guys about story points for another “Suicide Squad” movie but it’s not a done deal. He said they have yet to elevate any kind of concept to see if they can push for a sequel.
