Uncharted Update: Naughty Dog Open To Another Game But Under Different Circumstances

With Uncharted 4 marking the potential end of the series, Naughty Dog has hinted more for the possible future of the franchise. Will fans ever see the inclusion of a new installment in the series?

Naughty Dog Weighs In On The Franchise

According to PlayStation LifeStyle, The Lost Legacy is the official cover of Game Informer's April edition, giving players some new information on the upcoming title. Creative Director, Shaun Escayg, claimed that the spin-off title allows them to put all the best parts of the game in a streamlined story. On the other hand, Naughty Dog Co-President, Evan Wells, stated that everyone is excited about the game and that there will be an "empty spot" in fan's hearts if they never make one again.

In line with this, Wells explained that Naughty Dog will most likely not be creating another game for the franchise after The Lost Legacy. Furthermore, the studio is now busy with other titles like The Last of Us II and they plan to venture other projects as well. Although, the co-president mentioned that if they had multiple studios, there might be an option for them to continue working on the series.

Other Studios To Work On the Uncharted Franchise?

While they have a strong passion for the franchise, the studio lacks the resources to work on multiple large scale projects. However, GameSpot reports that the franchise might still have some business opportunities to explore as Sony owns the series. With this in mind, they could easily transfer the game over to a different studio to work on a potential fifth installment.

Incidentally, creative director, Neil Druckmann, previously stated that he would be willing for another studio to take over the series as long as they capture the original "essence" of the game. It is worth noting that other studios have already worked on the franchise like Sony Bend who made the PS Vita spinoff title, Golden Abyss. On the other hand, Bluepoint Games worked on The Nathan Drake Collection. For now, fans will have to wait for further information regarding the future of the Uncharted series.
