Final Fantasy XV Gladio DLC Plot And Combat Revealed, Is The Side Story Worth It?

The upcoming Final Fantasy XV Gladio DLC brings in some new mechanics while trading off the open world for a linear plot. With this in mind, is it worth picking up the first side story that sheds more light to everyone's favorite meathead?

Final Fantasy XV Gladio DLC Introduces New Mechanics

According to Game Revolution, the first additional character downloadable content (DLC) gives insight to Gladio and the events that transpired when he left the group. With the case of FFXV's open world, Square Enix has opted to include new locations instead of rehashing the same areas. Moreover, the upcoming DLC places a large focus on combat that relies on brute force rather than the typical point warping.

To begin with, the plot begins with Gladio meeting up with Cor Leonis near some kind of water hole. From there, Noctis's guard is tasked with completing a trial that Cor had failed 30 years ago. This quest mainly involves braving through several caves and defeating four bosses before fighting against the Blademaster Gilgamesh. It is worth noting that the said enemy is actually the iconic character from the franchise who first appeared in the very first game.

Meanwhile, Gladio plays much differently from Noctis who warps around the field to look for an opening or escape from danger. Instead, the warrior is more of a rough kind of character who steamrolls through his opponents. On the other hand, battles mainly take place in linear caves where Gladio crushes hellish-like enemies before finally confronting the boss.

Cor also joins the character but only between trials as he is not allowed to intervene with the ongoing quest. Overall, the DLC does not stray too far from the main game with the exception of Gladio's playability and combat. Those who are interested in learning more about the plot of the game and are curious to know more about Noctis's crew might find the bonus content as an enjoyable experience.

Game's Official Soundtrack Launching Soon

That aside, fans can also buy the game's official soundtrack, which will be launching in the U.S. with 96 songs, as per GameSpot. It will arrive as a four-disc CD on March 24 with Sony Classic being the official distributor. Those who are interested can pre-order the soundtrack on Amazon for $30.

On the other hand, the Final Fantasy XV Gladio DLC will release on March 28. Keep in mind that all the items collected in the side story will transfer to the main game. Fans can play the main game on the PS4 and Xbox One.
