Sony Xperia UL Announced For Japan, Features Walkman App (VIDEO)

It's now official, Sony announced the Xperia UL smartphone, model SOL22 in Japan. Information about the device rolled in little by little before it's release, official documents popped up on the FCC just days ago.

Like the Xperia Z, the Xperia UL is waterproof and dustproof for added peace of mind, whether you're accident prone or not. It has a 5-inch screen to easily play games and videos without straining the eyes. The full HD screen uses TFT technology with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

One of the key features of the Xperia UL is the ability to take continuous photos for 15 seconds to make sure you get get the most out of capturing memories. Sony added its own next generation backlit CMOS image sensor, Exmor RS for Mobile. The rear camera is 13.1-megapixels and there's also a 3.1 megapixel camera for video messaging or chatting.

A 1.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 processor powers the Xperia UL along with 2GB RAM. There's 16GB of internal storage to store plenty of pictures, photos,music and of course apps. If that's not enough space, just pop an SD card into the microSD slot, up to 64GB worth if needed.

Sony's got music lovers covered with the built-in Sony Walkman app featuring Sony technology's high quality sound. For added sound control, users can tinker with Clear Audio+ for just the right sound settings. Also featured are music settings found in most of Sony's Walkman mp3 players such as Surround Equalizer and Dynamic Normalizer.

The Xperia UL has LTE and NFC capability and runs on the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS. It comes with a 2300 mAh battery that charges in a little over 2 hours and offers up to 480 hours of standby time. It comes in three different flavors, black, white and pink and is set to march on the KDDI au network. There's no word on pricing or if it will be available in North America or Europe.
