There have been several rumors surfacing on the internet regarding a new Thief game in development. The Eidos Montreal Studio Head has addressed the issue with an unfortunate response.

New Thief Game Rumors Spread Following Movie Post

According to Den of Geek US, Straight Up Films sparked speculation regarding a new game in the franchise in collaboration with its upcoming movie. The film company updated its website stating that a fifth sequel is currently in development and will be released with the motion picture adaptation.

Because of this, many netizens believed that the studio might have revealed a new game prematurely as there had been no word on any new game for the franchise. In line with this, developer Eidos Montreal had even suggested that it would release another installment if its 2014 reboot or series did well.

Studio Head Debunks Rumors Regarding New Game

In spite of the recent hype about a new game, studio head David Anfossi tweeted a photo "claiming" that they are developing a new title for the franchise, as per PVP Live. "We just have to build a team, a budget... Forget it! @EidosMontreal," he concluded, putting an end to the rumors surrounding the game.

What Straight Up Films might have meant was something smaller like a mobile game or something to tie-in with the movie. Even so, the Straight Up Film's official website still claims that there will be a direct sequel in the series. It is also worth noting that it has yet to make any changes regarding its original statement as well.

For now, fans will just have to wait for further news regarding a potential title that will launch with the upcoming movie. Those who want to play Thief can get a copy of the latest installment released back in 2014 for the PS4. There has been no word regarding any finer details about the upcoming movie.
