Sega Unveils 'Sonic Mania' Nostalgic Trailer; Confirms Release Date

Does Sega see something that others in the gaming community are not aware of? This is a pertinent question because when all game developers are cranking their creative heads to produce high-def, technically complicated video games, Sega is poised to bring back nostalgia by unveiling a trailer of the 90s inspired Sonic Mania. It even had its release date confirmed.

This Is A Retro-Looking Video Game

Admittedly, Sonic Games had its heyday in the 1990s. With this reveal trailer, fans of Sonic Mania will see Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails romp around their screens retro-style. Sega promises that it will release the video game on Aug. 15, 2017. Eyes of gamers will be treated with the retro-looking Sonic and his friends. This is what the teaser trailer has indicated.

When Sega releases Sonic Mania, it will be on all current generation platforms. Gamers will be able to play the original crew of the game. However, in keeping with its original style, Sega did not use the 2D artistic styles currently available. It chose to render the graphics just like the original Sega Genesis games.

The Graphics Will Be Rendered In 2D

This visual style is clearly indicated by the way Sonic and his friends race through the obstacles in the game. All of the characters and items are rendered in 2D at all levels of the game. Sega is clearly emphasizing the classic design of the original game.

Sega also indicated in the teaser trailer that digital pre-orders for Sonic Mania are now available. The game is listed on Steam at $20 with a small discount. A collector's edition is also available for $70 at Amazon, with a small discount at Amazon Prime. The collector's edition comes with neat bonuses such as a metallic collector's card with download key, a cartridge cast and a 12-inch Sonic and Genesis statue.
