A Wordle Multiplayer Board Game is Going to be Part of Your Party Games Soon

A board version of the popular online word puzzle game "Wordle" is going to be part of your party games soon.

In the near future, you will enjoy the hit online puzzle "Wordle" in your parties as it is being turned into a multiplayer board game.

The New York Times, which purchased "Wordle" earlier this year, partnered with Hasbro and together, they will bring "Wordle" from the digital world to the physical one, according to The Verge.

"Wordle: The Party Game" is expected to arrive later this year, and it is designed to be played with multiple players or teams, according to Engadget

'Wordle' and its Popularity

"Wordle" is an online word game. It is created and developed by Welsh software engineer, Josh Wardle. In January 2022, "Wordle" was purchased by The New York Times Company.

To play the game, you will have six attempts to guess a five-letter word. Feedback is given for each guess in the form of colored tiles.

Each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray after every guess. Green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all.

The game was initially created by Wardle for himself and his partner to play, but eventually, it was made public in October 2021.

By December 2021, the game gained a large amount of popularity. This is after Wardle added the ability for players to copy their daily results as emoji squares. The results are widely shared on Twitter.

From 90 players on November 1, 2021, the game garnered over 300,000 players as of January 2, 2022. This figure rose to over 2 million a week later.

Between January 1 and 13, around 1.2 million "Wordle" results were shared on Twitter. According to several media outlets, the dailiness of the puzzles is the possible reason for its popularity.

How 'Wordle: The Party Game' is Played

To play "Wordle: The Party Game," you have to begin with one player or the so-called "Wordle Host." He writes down a secret word that the rest of players has to guess.

Much like the online version, the rest of the players have six tries to guess it. In the game, the players who take less attempts to guess the secret word will earn less points. At the end of the game, the player with the least points wins.

When you purchase the board game, you'll get three "Wordle" boards, a secret word board for the host, and dry-erase markers. You will also get a set of physical green and yellow tiles, which imitates the ones used in the game.

"Wordle: The Party Game" costs $19.99, and today, it is available to pre-order at Amazon, Target and Hasbro's online store.

The board game is expected to arrive in stores in October. This is also the one-year anniversary of the online game's release to the public.

Since it was launched, "Wordle" inspired a number of spin-offs. This includes "Tradle," where players identify countries by their exports, and "Heardle," a guessing game for popular songs.
