Fan Attempts to Figure Out the New Mario

In a Video Games Chronicle article, an anonymous 4chan user posted a list of the possible voice actors for Mario. According to this user, the deed was possible after acquiring a kiosk demo of the Super Mario Bros. Wonder from a retail store in the U.S. After datamining the copy, the user created a breakdown of the voice actors.

A Famiboards user MondoMega created a 21-person list and did a process of elimination among the voice actors. Kevin Afghani, who voices Arnold from Genshin Impact, and Mick Wingert, the voice of Heimerdinger from Arcane, were the top two possible voices for Mario.

However, Wingert quickly shut down the rumor. IGN reached out to Wingert's agent, Epoch Talent, and was able to get a response. Wingert stated that while he can neither confirm nor deny his involvement with the game, "he can confirm that he is NOT voicing Mario." Meanwhile, Afghani was crossed out of the list as he sounded more like the talking flowers instead of Mario.

The Hunt for New Mario Remains

In August, Nintendo officially announced that the original voice actor of Mario, Charles Martinet would be stepping away from the character. Martinet is currently Nintendo's Mario Ambassador.

Fans are eager to satisfy their curiosity as to who will be the new voice of Mario since Super Mario Bros. Wonder will be the first game that will not feature Martinet's legendary Mario voice. The Super Mario Bros. Wonder will hit Nintendo Switch on October 20 and is now available for pre-order for $59.99.
