Nintendo and Sega Bring Back Classic Game Style

Aside from their close release dates, both game titles bear the same premises too. The games are both coming back to its classic form with expressive artwork and 2D gameplay. Remarkably, both games will also feature multiple playable characters with new power-up mechanics and four-player co-op mode.

Regardless, both producers are confident with each of their own games. In an interview with Automaton, Sonic Superstars producer Takashi Iizuka just laughed at the coincidence with the release dates. He also expressed that while both games are coming back to classic each of the games has its own distinction.

Meanwhile, Super Mario Bros. Wonder producer Takashi Tezuka hopes that gamers will have the opportunity to try both games. He also called the instance an "interesting coincidence."

While Super Mario Bros. Wonder will be an exclusive Nintendo Switch game, the Sonic Superstars will be available on PC, PlayStation, Switch, and Xbox.

Nintendo and Sega's Friendly Rivalry

The rivalry between the two companies started in the 1980s during the rise of console technology. During those years, both Nintendo and Sega worked hard to gain success within the Japanese market. There were also instances when the companies released consoles within a few days of each other.

Since then the companies have been having success of their own. Sega struck a gold mine with the Sonic franchise while Nintendo has its own success with the Super Mario franchise.

The rivalry has evidently ceased to become a friendly one unlike before. In fact, both Mario and Sonic fandoms have been equally supportive of each other's releases. Some fans have also hinted that they will buy both games once they launch.
