Overwatch players have complained that they are being unjustly penalized for getting disconnected from the game. Blizzard recently justified its position about this policy.
Overwatch Player's Complaint on Disconnection Suspension Policy
An Overwatch player complained in the official forum about the disconnect suspension policy of Blizzard. The gamer complained that he got a ten-minute gameplay suspension because of an unintentional disconnection. He was worried that he might get permabanned for it.
Blizzard's Justification for Overwatch Play Suspension
Overwatch Game Director Jeff Kaplan replied to the complaint. Although he sympathized with the suspended player, there is not much he could do about it. Currently, the Overwatch staff have no way of knowing if players disconnected accidentally or intentionally. A Solomon-like decision was then implemented in which all disconnection will be treated the same way.
Overwatch Competitive Play Leavers Problem
Many Overwatch competitive players are complaining about teammates who disconnect during the game. The disconnection may or may not be intentional but this can also cause some problems for the remaining members who are suddenly a man short during the matches.
The suspension policy is primarily directed against "rage quitters". These are Overwatch players who intentionally leave the match if they sense that their team is going to lose. This policy also discourages Overwatch players with poor internet connection from joining the competitive plays. The idea is to make sure that the competitive matches are safe from leavers and players with unstable network.
Advise to Overwatch Players with Poor Net Connection
Kaplan did give some advice to Overwatch players suffering from unstable Internet. He said that they could play in Brawl or go up against AI characters. He said that a lot of Overwatch players too are complaining about the "leavers" in their matches. The game director also said that heavier penalties will be imposed soon against all players who disconnect from the game even if it's unintentional.
