Minecraft Movie To Star Steve Carell; Release Date Already Announced

Everyone's favorite sandbox adventure video game, Minecraft, has been confirmed to have a movie adaptation. This is not a troll nor a drill as the controversial video-game-turned-movie has already found its director, screenwriter, and even a release date! But that's not all, the said Minecraft movie is going to star Award-winning actor Steve Carell (The Office).

Minecraft movie details

The no-final-title-yet Minecraft movie is set to be directed by Rob McElhenney, actor and writer in one of the hit TV shows, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. McElhenney is also going to be joined in writing the movie with Wonder Woman screenwriter, Jason Fuchs. The film adaptation of the popular sandbox video game is going to be under Warner Brothers who has been working on it ever since Minecraft gained a massive fanbase. No further details about the film have been announced for quite some time, until now.

You got that, our favorite actor who recently starred in Café Society and The Big Short (but kids know him better as Gru in Minions and Despicable Me movies), Steve Carell, has been reported to play the lead role in the mysterious Minecraft film. Did you know that the A-list Hollywood actor actually digs Minecraft? Check the video below!

As of this writing, there aren't any additional details on who Carell would play since the video game doesn't actually have any solid characters. However, Minecraft does have Steve, one of the default characters or the character that you control when you play the game.

In the Minecraft game (playable for kids, by the way), Steve has dark skin, with 4px arms, blue eyes, dark brown hair and wears a light blue shirt. He pairs it off with a pair of blue jeans and gray shoes. Could Steve Carell be playing Steve in the upcoming Minecraft movie?

Minecraft game

The game was first released in 2009 and it's typically called a "sandbox construction game" wherein the player creates structures and artwork with cubes in a three-dimensional environment. The genius behind Minecraft is Markus Persson, the founder of Mojang AB. He cites Dwarf Fortress, Infiniminer and Dungeon Keeper as his inspirations.

Minecraft is playable on PS4, PS43, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation Vita, Wii U, PC, Android phones, and iOS phones. Minecraft movie is scheduled to hit the theaters on May 25, 2019.
