No matter how open James Cameron has been with his plans for "Avatar"2, the frequent delay of its launch date has some fanatics questioning the reality of an "Avatar"2. Recent developments indicate that there will be a sequel. This is news that fans of the movie will really welcome.

New Launch Date Was Announced

The movie studio has finally scheduled a new release date. "Avatar" 2 will be released in theaters on Dec. 21, 2018.  Technically, Fox has simply set an "untitled movie" for the said schedule. But since the announcement was issued by Cameron's production outfit, Lightstorm Entertainment, it's pretty safe to assume that this refers to the much-awaited sequel.

In addition, Cinemablend says there had been some indications that 2018 will see the release of "Avatar" 2. Incidentally, the first "Avatar" movie was also launched at Christmas time. It was in 2014 that the upcoming sequel was originally scheduled for release.

But since Cameron wanted to produce three movie sequels, the project naturally took a longer time than expected. Eventually, the movie was rescheduled to 2016, and then again to 2017. After Lucasfilm and Disney announced the Star Wars" episode 8 release date will be delayed until Dec. 2017, the "Avatar" schedule was canceled with no new launch date.

Launch Date Has Is Now Confirmed

A report from NME says that "Avatar' 2 release date is now confirmed. "The release date for Avatar 2 has been revealed by 20th Century Fox," reported the news outlet. "The film studio has let slip that the sequel to the 2009 animated box office hit will arrive in cinemas in December 2018 in an update to its release slate," the report added.

SlashFilm gave a clearer report on this development. It says that Fox has scheduled Dec. 21, 2018 for what may be the sequel to the much-acclaimed "Avatar" 1. With the said date earmarked for an "untitled Lightstorm production," it is safe to assume that "Avatar" 2 will hit the theaters on Yule Season 2018.
