Is The 'Xbox One S' A Good Blu-ray Player Alternative?

If you have a brand new 4K HDR TV, then 4K video is going to be amazing and it will definitely look incredible. But in order to watch a 4K Blu-ray, you will need a 4K Blu-ray player, which can set you back for quite a few hundred dollars more than a regular Blu-ray. However, if you do want to make that investment, the cheapest 4K Blu-ray player offers a lot more than just play movies. You can purchase a 4K-ready Xbox One S for as little as $349, which is a full $200 cheaper than the least expensive Blu-ray player on sale today.

Xbox One S is a good Blu-ray player alternative

The cheapest Xbox One S, which is a 500GB model, as well as being bundled with a copy of Halo 5: Guardians and a digital download of the Halo complete collection, is on sale for only $349. Competition between retailers should even lower that price down yet again. But even if it doesn't budge even a single dollar, it's still much cheaper than the $596 Samsung UBD-K8500, and much less than the Panasonic DMP-UB900.

Xbox One is worth the purchase

But keep in mind that there are still differences on the video chipsets that produce 4K videos. But whether you want to spend that extra $200 or $600 is up to what you see with your own eyes, and considering that extra potential of a gaming console over a regular Blu-ray player, we think that the Xbox One S really sells itself in this scenario. If you want a 4K Blu-ray player, it's still pretty hard not to give the Xbox some serious consideration.

Get the Xbox One S now

It's a little bit strange, though, that Microsoft isn't bragging about this in the first place. With that in mind, it makes big sense to do the right thing and get yourself a 4K-ready gaming console which is also a 4K-ready Blu-ray player too. The Xbox One S is definitely worth the buy.
