Developers Of 'Nioh' Dramatically Changed The Game's Co-Op

Nioh is an action Role playing game by Team Ninja that was just released last February 7, 2017. It is a story about a sailor named William who goes to Japan to find Edward Kelly, and along the way, is tasked by historical Japanese figures to help fight Oni.

Before the release, players were able to try the game and if they were able to finish the demo, they'd get special prizes upon the actual release. Players and fans all started clamoring for the game as it actually surpassed their expectations, and that may also be why the game has received a favorable reception.

How Co-Op Works In The Game

According to GameSpot, in the pre-release demo of the game, players were able to join another player by sharing a password. This option initially helped players get through a tough stage and allowed them to finish the game easily. However, Team Ninja noticed this and changed the dynamics of the co-op right before the release of the game.

Changes Made To Co-Op

In an article by Kotaku, Team Ninja changed co-op in such a way, that a player can still join another player, but can only do so if he's already beaten that level or stage.

To clear things up, Tom Lee, the Creative Director at Team Ninja explains that, a player cannot just co-op his way through the entire game because that would make it easy to finish. They also want the players to experience Nioh the way it should be and only allowed the previous version of co-op to be played because of limited stages and time to play at the pre-release demo.

All in all, this sudden change to a big part of the game has players disappointed, as they were looking forward to playing the game along with a friend. Hopefully, this change does not give Nioh nor Team Ninja any backlash as time progresses.
