Nintendo Switch Will Relaunch 'Pokemon Sun And Moon' As 'Pokemon Stars' With Higher Resolution

The Nintendo Switch will be having its very own Pokemon game, and it is going to be based on the new Pokémon Sun & Moon for the 3DS. The game is said to be currently under development at Game Freak and is set for an official release in 2017. The game will be called Pokémon Stars, or at least that is its current codename. Pokémon Stars will have some new Pokémon and is rumored to have some similarities with Pokémon Yellow, in being the 3rd expanded game after two mainline releases; the Game Boy's Pokémon Blue and Red.

About the games development

The Pokémon version for the Nintendo Switch was developed alongside the 3DS one but will be including a lot more features. Of course, it will definitely be the first Pokémon game that will be playable on a home console and will include a lot of features and creatures that are not available on the 3DS. This means though they have some similarities, Nintendo intends Pokémon Stars to be distinctly unique on its own

Development was paused at some point

Game Freak has apparently paused its development of Pokémon Stars for a couple of months in order to focus on polishing the final output of the 3DS release. But even with that said, both Pokémon Sun and Moon will be featuring largely the same content, features such as the map, cities, art style, and etc. will largely be the same. The Switch version, however, will use higher-resolution assets compared to the 3DS version.

More features and projected release date

Additionally, the game also lets you be able to trade Pokémon between Sun & Moon and Stars through the Pokémon Bank app. According to some reports, Nintendo has originally planned for Stars to be officially released in summer 2017, but that window has since been moved to later 2017. More news and updates to come for Nintendo Switch's very own Pokémon Stars.
