Motorola to officially announce Moto X on July 11?

Motorola had recently launched a new ad campaign for the Moto X and there are now reports that the company hid the smartphone's launch in the ad. A tech expert has also revealed that Motorola will be holding a press event on July 11.

The Moto X is one of the most anticipated smartphones to launch in 2013 and Motorola confirmed its existence earlier this year. The rumor mills called the smartphone the Motorola X Phone until Motorola CEO Dennis Woodside announced the existence of the handset at the AllThingsD conference in May and called it the "Moto X." Woodside was light on specifics but called the device the company's "hero phone" and confirmed rumors that the smartphone would be contextually aware of its surroundings. He revealed that the Moto X would have sensors that would always be on, so the smartphone would automatically perform certain functions without the user's input. He gave an example of the Moto X having the ability to know that it is traveling in a car at 60 miles per hour and would automatically put the smartphone into car mode and activate speakerphone for incoming and outgoing calls. It will be a feature Motorola will use to set itself apart from other Android smartphones and Apple's upcoming iPhone 5S.

A new rumor claims that Motorola might be using one of Apple's tactics by including a hint inside the Moto X's new ad. The ad shows a male and female jumping off of a dock into a lake. The rumor suggests that the male is pictured as "X" and the woman is posed as "I", and since XI is the Roman numeral for 11, July 11 might be the date of the Moto X's official announcement. This could just be someone reading into an image too much, but it was also revealed that Motorola is holding a small press event on July 10 and 11.

Leo Laporte from This Week in Google told listeners on his show that Guy Kawasaki invited him and 50 journalists to an event Motorola is holding on July 10 and 11. Guy Kawasaki is currently an advisor to Motorola and was the first to leak the smartphone would be customizable back in March. Laporte believes that the event could be the official announcement of the Moto X.

Take all of this with a grain of salt. We'll have to wait until July 11 to see if we hear any Moto X news, and if we do, so will you.
