Unannounced Sony handset spotted on GFXBench ahead of MWC 2015

An unannounced Sony smartphone has just surfaced on the GFXBench database and might make its debut next week at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015.

A number of exciting devices are expected to make an appearance at the upcoming MWC 2015, and Sony is one of the various companies that will showcase new products at the show.

The company has already confirmed that it will formally take the wraps off its new Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet at the MWC, and at least one new smartphone may be in the cards as well. Recent reports have indicated that Sony will not unveil its next-generation Xperia Z4 flagship smartphone at the MWC, but the company may nonetheless introduce a couple of new handsets with mid-range specifications on board.

A yet-to-be-announced Sony handset with model number E2303 has just surfaced on the GFXBench database. The benchmark reveals several specifications for the device, and it's clear that it's not a flagship smartphone.

According to the GFXBench listing, the Sony E2303 will sport a 5.2-inch touchscreen with an HD resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and pack an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor under the hood, clocked at 1.5GHz and based on Cortex-A53 architecture, paired with Adreno 405 graphics.

The benchmark further lists the device with 1.8GB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage capacity, both of which likely refer to the amount that is actually usable. Consequently, the handset should have 2GB of RAM and up to 8GB of internal storage.

Other specs listed here include a 12-megapixel rear camera and a 4.8-megapixel front shooter, albeit a 13MP/ 5MP combo sounds more likely. Both cameras apparently support full HD 1080p video recording and the rear shooter also comes with some neat features such as auto focus, flash, HDR, touch focus, and face detection.

The purported Sony E2303 will also come with accelerometer, compass, GPS, light sensor, proximity sensor, Bluetooth, NFC, and Wi-Fi. The device will apparently have a single SIM card slot according to this benchmark. On the software side, the smartphone will run Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Another unannounced Sony handset with model number E2333 has also leaked earlier and is expected to make its debut at the MWC 2015, alongside the E2303. We'll be covering Sony's MWC event and keep you posted as soon as more news surface, so stay tuned.
