Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 Lollipop rolling out again

The Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone on Verizon Wireless is now receiving an update to Android 5.0 Lollipop.

If that brings a flashback, it's because this already happened nearly two months ago. And it's happening again now. More specifically, Verizon announced back in early February that it was upgrading its Galaxy S5 to Android 5.0 Lollipop. At the same time, it seems the carrier pulled the original update at some point, without making any announcement or giving any explanation. Big Red has now started rolling out a new build of Android 5.0 Lollipop to the Samsung Galaxy S5, albeit no changes are apparent. The original update was G900VVRU1BNLC, while the new version comes as G900VVRU1BOA4.

The new update notice from Verizon Wireless doesn't mention anything different compared to the previous update, as the only thing that seems changed is the build number. Nevertheless, the carrier must have pulled the original update for a good reason, and the new version likely fixes some more bugs here and there.

"Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce an operating system update to Android 5.0 Lollipop," the carrier touts. "This version brings Android beyond smartphones and tablets, allowing access to apps and Android devices on other connected screens like TV's, cars and wearables. The new Material Design offers complex animations, 3-D views and improved runtime," further adds the new support document (PDF).

Just like the previous version that was pulled, this new Android 5.0 Lollipop build for the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5 will bring support for multiple accounts, an enhanced multitasking experience, improved notifications, Ambient Display, better internet connections, as well as the much-touted Material Design guidelines. On the other hand, visual changes due to Material Design are not so obvious on Samsung devices because the OEM's own TouchWiz UI that rests on top of Android is quite heavy.

Nevertheless, the update should improve the overall experience. Verizon has already started rolling out Android 5.0 Lollipop (again), but it may take a few days to hit all devices. As always, make sure your device has plenty of battery life before proceeding with the update, and make sure you're on a reliable Wi-Fi connection. Once you get the update, drop by out comment section below and tell us how it fares.
