Since the Surface Book is the first laptop in the history of Microsoft, the company launched amid much fanfare about seven months back. If latest reports are to be believed, the Redmond tech titan is currently gearing up to unveil the next-gen of the device, dubbed as Surface Book 2.
The news that Microsoft is already working on the new Surface Book 2 is certainly surprising to many, but it does not seem likely that the company will unveil the new model very soon -- especially in less than a year after launching the original device, Softpedia reported.
Earlier, there were reports that Microsoft is planning a hardware overhaul in 2017 spring, the time when the company is expected to complete its second Redstone upgrade. Contrary to this, latest rumors suggest that the device may come as soon as next month!
In terms of the hardware under the hood of the purported Surface Book 2, the Redmond tech giant may be anxiously waiting for the seventh generation i5 and i7 processors of Intel, which have been codenamed Kaby Lake series of processors. The processors in Kaby Lake will be produced on the 14nm FinFET technology. However, it is expected that the performance of the new architecture will be higher compared to the Intel's sixth generation Skylake processors.
As far as the efficiency and performance are concerned, there is no doubt that the Surface Book 2 will be superior compared to the 2016 MacBook Pro lineup. And this will be attributed to the new Intel processors, The Next Rex reported.
Nevertheless, Microsoft is also likely to improve the Surface Book 2 by installing a 4K display compared to the 3000 x 2000 resolution of the original Surface Book. Hence, it is expected that the upcoming notebook will have a higher resolution than the previous model.
The introduction of a USB-C port will be another new feature of the Surface Book 2. The installation of a USB-C port installed on the device will help to transfer data faster, offer more power delivery and certainly the capability to connect to a secondary display via the miniature port.
While there is no information regarding the pricing details of the Surface Book 2, it is almost certain that the new notebook will come in many different specifications as well as with different pricing structures. Nevertheless, it is expected that the starting price tag of Surface Book 2 will be less than $1,499, which was the starting price tag of the original Surface Book.
