How the Nissan GT-R NISMO Compares to the Nissan GT-R

With Nissan's 2017 GT-R NISMO, the company has improved upon its, already notable, GT-R unit. Still, the differences between the two models are quite astonishing - an improved engine, carbon fiber parts and an increase in total power. A lot of love and passion have been thrown onto the GT-R NISMO and it truly shows.

Drive, with the advice of a former V8 supercar champion, pit the GT-R NISMO and the GT-R against each other and have come to the conclusion that in terms of engine and road handling, the NISMO is truly the more superior car.

According to the V8 champion, the Nissan is "one of the best race cars" he has driven and he is thoroughly impressed with how the unit handles at high speeds. The bigger tires and aerodynamic downforce allows the car to turn corners better.

According to Recombu, the existing GT-R's 3.8- liter twin-turbo has been revamped for a power boost, taking the total of the NISMO to 600PS. The twin-turbo is mated to a six-speed dual-clutch automatic with paddle shifters on the steering wheel. The engine has more power because of the addition of high-flow, large diameter turbochargers, which were first seen in the GT3 race cars.

Each NISMO engine is meticulously put together by hand, in a total of nine hours. Once finished, the engine sports an aluminum plate finish, with the name of the Nissan Takumi engineer that put the piece together. The added turbos, in comparison to the GT-R, really pull the whole car along. The unit also has more traction control.

As for the aesthetics of the GT-R NISMO, interested buyers will be pleased to note the carbon fiber front bumper, carbon fiber canards, the significantly reinforced and stiffer body and Recaro carbon buckets with red Alcantara inserts.

The Nissan GT-R Nismo is priced upwards of $585,000.
