After years of speculation, actor-director Ben Affleck confirmed he's working on a solo Batman movie which will be tentatively titled "The Batman."
After the numerous "Batman" movie versions that the world has already seen, Affleck again is putting the Dark Knight back in theaters where he will be the lead actor and director. As movie leaks and spoilers are becoming a trend, the latest detail revealed about this upcoming DC film is its title that Affleck just came up with, "The Batman," but he also said that he might consider changing it.
"The movie, I think, is going to be called The Batman," said Affleck. "At least that's what we're going with now. I might change it," he added. Furthermore, the actor-director updated DC fans about the film's status, saying, "We're working on the script. The script is going well. I'm really excited about it."
Affleck started to give life to Batman, otherwise known as Bruce Wayne, in the Zack Snyder movie "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," which rolled in theaters in March. However, a new Batman movie was already in talks back in 2014, even before Warner Bros. let Affleck take over the Dark Knight role. A rumor also came out about the final installment in the "Dark Knight" trilogy that it could have been called "The Batman," but the production apparently pushed through with the title "The Dark Knight Rises."
Not much has been revealed about the storyline of "The Batman," but Affleck recently teased details about the movie's villain Deathstroke, which will be played by actor Joe Manganiello. Affleck tweeted a footage of Deathstroke in August and explained why he chose the character to antagonize him in his upcoming movie.
"He's a great villain because I just had an instinctive feeling that he would match up with him well. You know, I'm a big admirer of that character as well, especially in the New 52 the way that they did Deathstroke, and I thought that it could work," Affleck explained.
Deathstroke is also set to make a big screen appearance in the upcoming "Justice League" movie, which is slated to open in theaters on Nov. 17, 2017.
Affleck and Geoff Johns are currently working on the movie's script, but the release date of "The Batman" is still yet undisclosed. The production and the fans though are expecting it to come out sometime around 2018 or 2019.
