PSY Planning A Comeback With New Music Video, YG Entertainment Reveals

The "King of YouTube" PSY will be releasing a new music video soon. YG Entertainment announced on Monday, Oct. 24 that PSY is planning to make a music video for a new track. PSY's last comeback was almost a year ago with his seventh full album released in December 2015

"We are progressing with plans for PSY's upcoming music video for a new song. However, there is nothing concrete regarding his comeback," YG Entertainment said in an official statement, according to Soompi. However, the company has scheduled four massive comebacks in November for groups including BIGBANG, BLACKPINK, Sechs Kies and Akdong Musicians, so fans are speculating PSY won't be making a comeback so fast.

PSY first appeared on Korean national television after a TV producer took notice of his unique dancing in 2000. His first two albums were filled with controversy. In 2001, his debut album "Psy from the Psycho World!" earned him the nickname "The Bizarre Singer" for its blunt lyrics and peculiar dance moves. He was also penalized by the South Korean government for inappropriate content. On the other hand, his second album "Sa 2" was banned from being sold to persons under-19. It earned complaints due to its potential negative influence to children and teenagers.

International Breakthrough With "Gangnam Style"

The singer-songwriter became an international hit with his single "Gangnam Style" in 2012. PSY's music video was recorded to be the first video in YouTube history to reach one billion hits. As of 2016, the video has gained more than two billion hits.

His global popularity has reached even the West. Following the release of "Gangnam Style," he appeared on NBC's "The Today Show" and "Saturday Night Live." He was also the second South Korean musician to perform at MTV Europe Music Awards, competing with international stars such as Rihanna, Katy Perry, and Lady Gaga.

"Daddy" And "Napal Baji" For PSY's 2015 Comeback

PSY's latest comeback in 2015 was a big hit. He released his seventh album "Chiljip PSY-da" on Dec. 1, 2015, with double title tracks "Daddy" and "Napal Baji." His album was lauded for its addictive melody, which somehow became the singer's trademark.

His music video "Daddy" was reported to be his fifth video to reach 200 million views, joining the feat of "Gangnam Style," "Gentleman," "Hangover," and "Oppa's My Style." As of October 2016, the video has a little less than one billion views.
