It was unclear whether the students were aware that the gummy bears were laced with the drug.

"It's difficult to make judgement about what's actually going on when there's so many different rumors, but it's scary to see all the kids going to the hospital," said Lily, a student at Naperville North. The school were scheduled to discuss the incident at a press conference Tuesday afternoon. “We continue to review the specifics of the situation and will address it appropriately,” scfool official said.

What Is Marijuana?

Cannabis, also known as marijuana among several other names, is a preparation of the Cannabis plant intended for use as a psychoactive drug or medicine. The main psychoactive part of cannabis is tetrahydrocannabinol (THC); one of 483 known compounds in the plant, including at least 65 other cannabinoids. Cannabis can be used by smoking, vaporization, within food, or as an extract.

As described by NIH, Marijuana is the most commonly used illicit drug in the United States.1 Its use is widespread among young people. According to a yearly survey of middle and high school students, rates of marijuana use have steadied in the past few years after several years of increase.
