Pokémon Sun and Moon Guide: How To Use Golisopod Effectively

There are a number of underappreciated Pokémon in Sun and Moon and one of them is the Golisopod. Despite its popularity, players are reluctant to focus on this big guy due to its one major drawback and that is its innate ability: Emergency Exit. Although the ability is pretty much a despondent, there are still big reasons for you to use Golisopod. And today, we're going to show you how to effectively build Golisopod.

Golisopod Overview

The core strength of Golisopod emanates from its hefty Attack and Defense stats which are ideal for any offensive Pokémon. With over a total value of 530 base stats, Golisopod is fully capable of withstanding effective moves and at the same time, dish out considerable amount of damage to your opponent's Pokémon. Here's the full overview of Golisopod's stats:

Take note that the ability Emergency Exit only occurs once per battle which means that you can now recover using your Leech Life ability without ever fearing for another switch out. Now, let's focus on its moveset. Golisopod has a access to myriad of skills but we will only be making use of what matters. Since Golisopod will switch out the first time the Pokémon drops half HP, we wouldn't be using buffs or any relative moves. Instead, we will be focusing in dishing out as much potential damage as possible to utilize the Pokémon's high attack and defense stats.

Moves:
Leech Life
First Impression
Liquidation
Spikes
Item: Leftovers
Nature: Adamant
EV: 252 HP, 252 Attack, 4 Def

We will be using First Impression since it benefits from the Emergency Exit ability. Although the ability relies that your Pokémon needs to switch out from battle, it's pretty handy nonetheless. If you want to capitalize on its Emergency Exit ability - albeit once per battle only, then First Impression is definitely handy. Also, the combo First Impression/Liquidation/First Impression can be very deadly especially for squishy offensive Pokémon.

You will be using Leech Life for the most part as it'll increase your survivability significantly. Now the major downside for this Pokémon is that, Stealth Rock can easily counter Golisopod as it takes almost a quarter of its HP easily. Be wary whenever you're planning on switching back Golisopod when Stealth Rock is active as it can knockout the Pokémon on a whim.

Overall, Golisopod is a very strong Pokémon and we highly suggest adding it into your offensive Bug/Rain team. It is durable enough to withstand most moves and it can also deal significant damage to most Pokémon. PokeMen has made a video showcasing the potential of Golisopod in competitive battles which you can see down below.
