iPhone 6 Features: Wasn't the plastic casing an iPhone 5S thing?
A new concept video by designer Ran Avni borrows from a well-circulated iPhone 5S rumor. The so-called budget iPhone, Apple's rumored low-cost handset for lower-income markets, has long been alleged to sport a plastic casing to help lower manufacturing costs.
While the iPhone 5S will indeed likely have a plastic shell if and when it finally sees a release date, Avni posits a design for the iPhone 6 that also utilizes a plastic casing. The result is nothing if not Apple-looking, and one would be hard pressed to argue that it looks particularly cheap.
The iPhone 6 design shown in the video comes in both black and white and is pretty similar to that of the iPhone 5, except for the plastic casing. There is a physical Home button, a speaker bar at the bottom and headphone jack beside it. The user interface looks like iOS 6, but the video only shows us the lock screen. Unfortunately, the video is a series of stills and doesn't actually show the hypothetical iPhone 6 in action.
With the recent news that the iPhone 6 release date might be coming up sooner than anticipated, the fate of the iPhone 5S is uncertain. Many iPhone 5S rumors have been circulated suggesting that key Apple suppliers have already begun hiring additional laborers to help assemble the low-cost iPhone, but if an iPhone 6 release date is imminent, it seems unlikely that Cupertino will release two brand new iOS handsets so close together.
If the plastic iPhone 5S looks anything like the iPhone 6 concept rendered in this video, let's hold out hope that it eventually materializes.
