While Xiaomi is more known for their line of smartphones, the Chinese company has also started to delve into fitness trackers. The company's line of fitness wearables are cheaper than those generally found in the market, much like its smartphones. Meanwhile, Fitbit still holds a top spot for fitness wearable fans despite its more expensive lines.
Xiaomi's Strong Contender
According to CNET, Xiaomi will be launching the Mi Band 2 Fitness Tracker on June 7, at only $23. It comes with OLED display, which the company claims is scratch resistant, fingerprint resistant and is bright enough to be seen even under direct sunlight.
The display itself will show the wearer the time, heart rate, calories burned, number of steps taken and battery charge, among other details. The battery, when fully charged, can last up to 20 days of use. While the display does not show all details at one time, a button allows the wearer to choose which among the same he or she would like to see.
The Mi Band 2 is equipped with a sensor that monitors heart rate and an accelerometer that is designed to accurately count the steps taken by the wearer. Currently, there is no news on when the Mi Band 2 be available outside China.
While the Xiaomi devices are definitely the cheaper choice, it still comes in at second place as per the last quarter numbers. In the global wearables market, Fitbit is still number one.
Fitbit's Basic Wearable
The Fitbit Zip is on the market and available for purchase at the price of $59.95. The Fitbit website boasts that the Zip can track everyday activities, counts steps, notes amount of calories burned in a day, and records how far a person has travelled. It also connects to the user's smartphone and claims to illustrate progress through the use of easy-to-read charts and graphs.
The Mi Band 2 comes in black, green, blue and orange, while the Zip is available in black, lime, midnight blue and magenta.
