‘The Mummy' Official Trailer Is Out; Watch Tom Cruise Tackle Monsters In Action-Filled Reboot

The upcoming action-adventure supernatural horror film "The Mummy" has released its official trailer. Lead star Tom Cruise showcases pulse-racing stunts and action chops that will remind fans of his very own "Mission: Impossible" films.

Directed by Alex Kurtzman, "The Mummy" is the first instalment in the Universal Monsters Cinematic Universe. The reboot is written by Jon Spaihts and goes with a storyline of military commandos transporting an entombed mummy to London. The mummy then awakens as the ancient queen whose fate has been robbed and therefore releases chaos as her revenge.

"Star Trek Beyond" star Sofia Boutella will play as the evil queen that is set to bring chaos to the world. On the other hand, Cruise plays the hero who does death-defying stunts to stop the evil from happening. Other cast members to watch out for are Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance and Russell Crowe.

In an interview, Kurtzman shared about their team's approach and goals for the film. "Whether it was by default, or because they did it intentionally, they knew that the audience needed to fall in love with each individual character first, and if they did that, then a world would present itself," he said. "That has been the goal in making 'The Mummy'. It's not so much 'build a universe,' as it is 'make a great 'Mummy' movie.'"

"The Mummy" official trailer shows a plane tragedy and the monster's awakening. Breath-taking stunts, kinetic performances and intense action feats fill the characters' encounter with the outraged ancient queen.

As what Kurtzman classifies the movie, the team managed to turn this action-thriller film into a monster movie, with that being its ultimate goal as it is the first of the Universal Monsters Universe. He also promises a different tone for the film.

Avid fans of "The Mummy" franchise will witness the action-filled reboot in June 2017. Watch the trailer below:
