Overwatch Christmas Event Finally Has An Official Date!

The Overwatch Christmas event has been in the rumor mill for quite some time already. It was first unearthed following a datamined code from the game's files. However, some players still took it as a grain of salt. Well, that seems to be a thing in the past, as the highly anticipated event now has an official release date.

The big reveal was courtesy of the game's official Twitter account. The said social media site tweeted what appears to be a holiday card GIF. It includes not only a certain date (Dec. 13), but as well as a message that says, "It's the most wonderful time of the year, and we hope you'll join us for some holiday cheer."

Although Blizzard didn't directly confirm the existence of the Overwatch Christmas event, the GIF certainly means something. It could be a fact that the studio is trying to tease the community. Or perhaps, it's one way of confirming everything about the speculated event.

As previously reported here at iTech Post, sound files were acquired from the files of the game. It featured a couple of new character interactions, all of which designed specifically for the season. Moreover, a Christmas jingle is also deemed to be part it.

More recently, though, dataminers suggest that Overwatch will soon introduce brand new maps (a total of four). All of these, in one way or another, will be designed in accordance to the holiday season. Think of it as something that Blizzard did during the Halloween event (the Hollywood map).

Furthermore, a good number of heroes are expected to acquire costumes and emotes for the Christmas event. The list includes the likes of D.Va, Lucio and Solider: 76, among others. While these are extremely interesting things to see, they're to be taken as a grain of salt. After all, the studio has yet to confirm these speculations.
